Thank-you for offering this PBParty for chapter books and picture books. I am thrilled to have this opportunity to submit Magic in Mexico to the Party. Magic in Mexico is a chapter book for 7- and 8-year-olds who love adventures with a hint of magic.
Eight-year-old Liam and his twin brother and younger sister are shocked when they meet a talking lynx living in an old building. The lynx, Paco, has just lost his collection of magic coins. The children agree to travel to different countries to find the coins before a dangerous dragon gathers them up. On their first adventure, Liam and his siblings travel to ancient Mexico to search for the lost Mexican coin, with Paco’s final warning not to change history ringing in their ears.
Magic in Mexico is a stand-alone book; however, Liam and his siblings have many more coins to locate for Paco if there is interest in continuing their travels as a series.
I am a member of SCBWI and was fortunate to find a fabulous critique group at last year’s MidSouth SCBWI conference. I am participating in Julie Hedlund’s 12×12 Picture Book Challenge. In addition to chapter books, I write picture books and am working on a middle grade novel.

Excerpt:
“I can’t believe this is it! We finally get to see the theater!” Maggie said. She bounced up and down and clapped her hands.
“I wonder what we’ll find in there,” Liam said, gazing up at the ancient building.
Their parents had bought the town’s old, shut-down theater. They were repairing it so it would become a beautiful new performance hall.
“Hey Freckles! Shorty! Wait up! Why didn’t you wait for me at school?” shouted a voice.
Liam groaned. His brother, Dillon, ran up beside him. “Stop calling me Freckles!” Liam said. “We’re twins. You have the same number of freckles on your face.”
